Brandywine Optics
Brandywine Optics was founded by Mr. John Fisher in 1999 to develop hyperspectral imaging solutions for the commercial remote sensing, defense, machine vision and medical OEM markets. Brandywine is located in University Technology Park 2, a technology incubator 15 minutes from the Philadelphia airport., between Widner University and Crozer Hospital. Brandywine Optics holds the exclusive commercial license from NASA/JPL for the Offner Spectrograph Patent 5,880,834. Equipment includes a calibration lab, system integration lab, and all the necessary spectral sources, test equipment, and analysis software.
John Fisher – Founder, President
With 21-years of experience in multi-spectral and hyper-spectral optical systems, John is known in the remote sensing community for his lens design and optical system engineering expertise. John started his career at IBM, working in the optics lab for 5-years developing Thin Film Optical Inspection Systems. From there he moved on to the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, gaining experience in detector characterization, field deployments, and lens design of tactical surveillance systems.
Projects at NRL included dual-band FPA characterization, numerous airborne deployments with the PHILLS sensor, and completing the initial optical design of the COIS payload for the NEMO spacecraft. His primary expertise, for which he is known worldwide, is that of designing and building Offner Spectrometers. He has designed the gratings and spectrographs for six organizations, of which >20 are currently flying in commercial and tactical platforms. He has a B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Penn State, with additional coursework in optics from the University of Connecticut and the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
